A great surprise to the mix came in the design form of Michael Brody AIFD. I first met Michael on a Floral Design Retreat hosted by Michael O'Neill AIFD at a 3 day outdoor seminar with Hitomi Gilliam AIFD - 12 years ago!!!! Michael confirmed that he was coming to town to help with AIFD's Exhibit and would help if he had time - well - I think that 1 1/2 days of intense setup and design time qualifies as a member of the team...I can't wait to have Michael with us again in 2011!
Well...coming from an area such as Boulder, CO, I couldn't have asked for someone more familiar with playing in snowy and icy conditions than our very own designer extraordinaire Cherrie Silverman AIFD. A successful shop owner and accomplished float design specialist with the Rose Bowl Parade, Cherrie (pronounced Cherry) was the first to confirm a YES in coming to the Philadelphia International Flower Show. I can't begin to tell all who read this the absolute joy it is to have made another friend for life!!!
Talk about troopers!!!! Alisha wasn't going to let a little thing like high winds, sleet and snow keep her from crossing the bridge from New Jersey into Philly for an interior POLAR FANTASY! Wow! Always ready to work and have a good time doing it. I met Alisha while she was attending classes to achieve her Accreditation in AIFD. SHE IS IN - and deservingly so...wonderful designer and a real plus to the team!!!! ANOTHER NEW FRIEND!!! I am blessed!!!
FLASHBACK - My journey started with Marjorie at the Philadelphia Flower Show - she and Donald Yim AIFD were assisting Mary Linda Horn AIFD with her design at the Flower SHow the year I was the Program Chair for AIFD...The following year she was back assisting Bill Murphy AIFD and myself with a Featured Design at the 2006 Philadelphia Flower Show. Recently, I have had the opportunity to contract her as a Freelance designer for Beautiful Blooms and plan on getting her back in the studio this fall...after she settles in to life with her about-to-be second baby boy (CONGRATULATIONS!!!). She is always (as Cobie Callet puts it) "BUBBLY".
This curly-haired, bold-as-they-come and just as wildly talented designer is a good as they get! DING! (inside joke - sorry) I first heard of this Andy Hopper AIFD character from Kris after she came back from doing a Presentation for the Alabama Florists' State Convention. She told me he was a 'breath of Fresh Air, young florist who really cared about what he was doing' she also said he was a really good designer whose Southern Charm and Hospitality shone threw. What she didn't tell me is that he has vision to go with his talent, that he is genuinely creative and a natural leader. Andy (another of our new firends!!!) was truly a welcome blonde light in our Polar Fantasy journey!!! DING!!! (couldn't resist)

4 years ago when I started my solo journey with The Philadelphia International Flower Show, I asked an amazing designer friend of mine from AIFD - DONNA PIORKO to come and play in Philly - well she showed up with her dear friend - and now mine - Anne Gallagher AIFD and their designs helped me in achieving my dreams that year and winning Best of Show accolades...fast forward and Donna and Anne were back again doing what they do BEST!!!! Their efforts helped propel Schaffer Designs' Polar Fantasy to three Major Awards and national and international media coverage! THANK-YOU DONNA & ANNE!!!
